30 acres, neoprene foam and surveyor's tape

site-specific installation for the Bumpkin Island Artists' Encampment, Berwick Institute, Boston Harbor

“Ebb and Flow: Claim-It” used colorful surveyors' tape to anchor floating yellow ‘claims’ to demarcate the island's continual state of acreage in flux, as half of Bumpkin's acreage disappears with the tides twice a day.  By temporarily ‘claiming’ the entire intertidal zone, this work explores concepts of ownership, custody, and consumption while questioning who and what have ‘claims’ on us, and conversely, how have we made claims on the environment?
